Why Wont’t Sudburians Use Their Green Bins?
I don’t understand why people aren’t putting out their green bins every week, especially now that trash is only collected every other week by the city.
Since the new waste collection schedule went into effect, I’ve seen very little change in behaviour from my neighbours. Same as before, only a handful of homes put out green bins at all.
What blows my mind is that on weeks where only recycling and compost are picked up, at least half the homes on my street don’t bother putting ANYTHING out for collection AT ALL. Are you really so lazy that you won’t bother to put your blue box out if you can’t put the garbage out at the same time? These are homes that used to put out FULL recycling bins every week. I just don’t get it.
Back to the green bins… I really hoped people would get over whatever aversion they have to sticking organic waste in a separate pile from the rest of their trash. What difference does it make to you? Composting helps extend the life of the landfill site, saving the city and taxpayers millions of dollars down the road. And it’s not hard. You just put your banana peels, paper towels, bones, coffee grinds, etc. into the compost instead of the trash. Voilà!
And don’t tell me you won’t do it because it stinks or maggots or fruit flies or whatever. Those are going to be concerns whether you throw your shit into the compost or a plain old garbage bag. The garbage bag doesn’t magically keep your shit from stinking! What the actual hell!
USE YOUR FUCKING GREEN BINS !
