Open Letter to Mr Mayor Brian Bigger.
Dear Mr Mayor Bigger.
It must be great being able to give yourself a raise. Unfortunately many of the citizens of your fair city, do not have that luxury. In fact did you know that wages on average in The Greater City of Sudbury is just a little under $91,000 at $90,731 this is after tax mind you, and it is 2015 so the number are a bit different now but that was the most recent year i could find. This may seem like a lot however when compared to the annual average expenditure of Ontario citizens it is not, as back in 2017 the average total expenditure was $90,312 up from $88,953 so we can only assume that it has risen since then. Most of the money spent was on keeping there belly full and a roof over head. So I understand wanting to live a little more comfortably by giving yourself such a big raise. But now you want to make it harder for the citizens of this city harder to do the same.
So let me get this straight the city coffers had room in them for a %60 wage increase for yourself, but not enough for infrastructure projects? Interesting, that you would need an extra 3% from us in taxes. I mean if the city needs the money it needs the money but to quote you Mr mayor, ““Ensuring we keep our budget as tight as possible is a prudent thing to do this year because of our COVID-19 experience,” now i dont know about you as your pay was increased but mine has not in fact i like many am barley getting by. So to paraphrase your quote shouldn’t raises be revoked, as you said it yourself “the budget needs to be as tight as possible.” i know my household budget is. Mr Bigger I implore you do the right thing and return your pay to what it was 4 years ago, there is no reason for a mayor to make more then Premier Ford, let alone a mayor from a city the size of Sudbury.
Mr. Mayor Sr. we simply can not afford anymore, at this point you are asking to get blood out a stone. People are moving out of the city in droves due to the high coast of living here compared to the wages.
You could be a hero by finding money elsewhere in the budge instead of taxes. sure it would maybe mean lower pay for yourself but we all need to make sacrifices for the greater good. I hope you will do the right thing.
