Improvements

Sudbury needs to be helped. I was wondering what suggestions people have for small improvements around town to improve out city

Cities like Toronto have been implementing small changes for year that have over time made the downtown area of Toronto a clean and safe destination. There is no reason it can’t be done for sudbury.

Real and sincere ideas only please. I don’t want your sarcastic and unhelpful responses.

End the northern immigration pilot program, only enployers who are shitty to work for, have low wages, and don’t deserve to be in business use that as a source of cheap labor that can’t be attracted through conventional means.

Promote canadian culture instead of multi culturalism

Wanna make sudbury a better place?
    Be nice to people.
That destitute fuck on the corner? Buy him a big mac.
The old man struggling with groceries, offer to help.
Someone short a few bucks at the cash register…chip in.

I do all these things and trust me I’m a fucking asshole. (But I’m a lucky asshole)

Stop judging people and try walking in their shoes.

“made the downtown area of Toronto a clean and safe destination.”

You…you can’t be serious. Been to downtown Toronto recently? Doesn’t sound like it.

Toronto is a shit hole, stop trying to make sudbury more of a shit hole by making us into a mini toronto. An arena, of all things, is not going to fix our town. If it was so lucrative developpers would build and run it themselves without my property taxes going up. If my property taxes have to pay for it, I want season tickets every year and a voucher for 3 free concerts a year as well. If I have to subsidize you, then return the favor.

Screw an arena, screw a casino, we have enough arenas already here in sudbury and it only serves the richie riches in town. We need stuff that will help the whole city.

New arena for more seats for concerts, & hockey and a definitely a casino in the city would bring more money in FOR the city .

A new site for a new bigger arena for huge concerts so people don’t have to spend money on expensive tickets to go elsewhere. Like Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and other cities. Money can be made for the city . Bigger attraction musicians would come here as well. Can’t be downtown ! C’mon now there’s no parking it’s way too small for a downtown arena. Needs to be elsewhere . Change is good and needed in my opinion. Especially for noise levels for concerts . It needs to be out and not near residential areas. I’m sure the city has many places they can chose from..

Would bring many people from all over northern Ontario here . Closer for them to come here then go to Toronto or elsewhere for big name musicians. It would t just be for people in this city , money will come from tourists coming to see certain bands too.

Again, all this so the richie riches can enjoy themselves. I have a good paying job and can’t be arsed to pay ridiculous money to scalpers to watch a band from the nosebleeds and watch a mediocre live performance and pay 20$ for a popcorn and 25$ for a can of low quality beer. Any arena would have to be built bigger and better than what the other towns got to attract the big acts. And even then people will still go to toronto because of the clubs, shopping etc.

Build a colloseum, make it free to attend, and make prisoners fight for entertainment and I may go. Other than that it will be hard to sell an arena to anyone not making 100 thousand or more in this town.

True . You don’t see a hockey arena for concerts in the heart of downtown core in other cities . Like Toronto or Ottawa. It’s away from the immediate downtown area. Downtown should be for restaurants, bars , boutiques and of course homeless shelters and soup kitchens .

I think the plan for casino on Kingsway would’ve been great for the city for tourists as well. I’m sure it would’ve brought in a lot of money . Especially having extra hotel , restaurants etcetera. More parking no solicitors bc they would have had security I’m sure.
Another thing is so many homeless looking for palaces to live….What about all the over housed tenants in low rentals ? I heard of many in this city. Does the city not step in at some point and check to make sure they are legit? Or case workers checking? There’s no way a couple with no kids should be in a 2 bedroom or 3 bedroom ? Outrageous! That would levitate some of the homeless families situations .

Ked on a lower cheaper scale . Need a new arena different spot 1 million % . No room downtown, no parking not aesthetically pleasing to look at. Have a homeless and drug program spot there close the Elgin soup kitchen . With security of course.

Or homeless shelter where arena is now. Just not feasible to keep the arena there . Sudburians don’t like change but we NEED change because there is more people in this city now. No more small mining city. Expanding and separating it ti a different area will be refreshing and will make for better ideas for what she be in the arenas old place .

Remove either the Tim Hortons or LCBO to a different spot for starters . Not enough parking , constantly congested and will lessen the unemployed , druggies and homeless from hanging out there and being a nuisance e when trying to drive in or drive out. Crazy spot to put them anyways. Maybe the lcbo somewhere on Lorne or notre dame? My opinion

Get the Day trucks off our roads and force mining companies to use the rails. On that same note get Xstrata and Inco to clean up their act, no more sulphur smell and toxic fumes killing our plants and our health.

Too many days I can smell mining dust and next thing you know our green grass is yellow and crunchy despite taking care of the lawn.

Allow police to pick up known criminals and drive them to the middle of nowhere and drop them off, our justice system is a failure and cannot punish those who have nothing to lose.

Instead of busses we need something like a suspended train. Would eliminate wear and tear of the bus fleet on pothole ridden roads.

Need to diversify our economy away from post secondary that relies too much on foreign student dollars before the rest of our institutes go the way of laurentian.

Mining jobs should go to local populations first and excess jobs could be outsourced afterwards.

Need permanent spot checks/toll booths set up at every major highway leading to city limits and start charging people who go back and forth to toronto and bring back drugs into our city. Could have k9 dogs there too.

Need to get rid of the drugs and human traffickers downtown.

Need to make housing residents pay their own bills and shovel their own parking lot. Seen too many windows wide open mid winter and every lights on in the house. You can tell they don’t pay for their own bills.

Actually you know what sudbury really needs: more park benches and flowers (is that small enough?)

At one time the biggest issue forcing people away from the core was parking availability & cost. That was never remedied and retail collapsed. Now, unless you’ve lived under a rock, and not unique to Sudbury, the opioid crisis has fueled homelessness, vagrancy, personal safety & crime. Cleaning up such a cesspool requires more than small improvements.

Maybe the police can start pulling over more newish fancy cars driving in and around Kathleen area. Maybe from the TO area??
