Discrimination at Northwood clinic
Yesterday evening, I brought my 3 year old into the Lassalle North wood clinic, for what was suspected to be a sinus infection. Upon registration, when asked what the issue was, I explained that he’d had cold symptoms for roughly 3 weeks, that weren’t going away, and that he had a very bad runny nose.
The receptionists first question was if anyone in our household was vaccinated other than my son. I replied that, that had nothing to do with my child’s care, but that only his father was vaccinated. The receptionist proceeded to explain that this doctor (Dr. Kopa) only did over the phone appointments, and that my child could not be examined by a doctor. I explained that I didn’t have a working phone at the moment, and that we live over a half hour outside of town. She then informed me that they would not give my child any medical care. Which resulted in my son and I to have to go to the emergency department at HSN to receive medical attention.
According to a triage nurse, this has become common practice for this clinic, to deny patients, their basic human right to unbiased medical care, and overwhelm the hospital system with patients, who do not need emergent care, but a simple examination and antibiotics. My son has a bacterial infection, that if i had not brought him to the emergency department, he could have become seriously ill. We should have been seen at the clinic, to avoid wasting the hospital’s time, when there were dozens of other patients who clearly needed their attention more. The Northwood clinic has completely violated my son’s rights to unbiased health care, and I will not stand quiet, while they are allowed to do this to children, or adults!
If you have received similar discrimination from this clinic or others, please comment and I will reach out to you. I want to make this as big as we can! Our children’s rights will no longer be infringed upon!
