Just a heads up that the government is now going to start looking into everyone who applied for CERB. Don’t believe me, check out the job postings for Payment Service Officers on the government website.

I have a friend who is helping facilitate this and people committing fraud will be caught. If you have a job you could have been reporting to this whole time you will have to pay it back and may face a fine. After the initial two weeks of the pandemic in Ontario any essential worker was to report to their jobs. If you had a job to report to but chose not to you will be paying that money back and being cut off from any further help.

Employers will also be sent questionnaires about reasons why employees weren’t working and they won’t be lying for you. All “layoffs” will be looked into as well as people who said they needed to be off for childcare (both parents places of employment will be contacted to see if the leave was needed) I know many people who took these leaves even though childcare wasn’t an issue. This may not happen right away but it is going to happen.

If you have a job to go to do yourself a favour and call your employer and get back there ASAP. If you are still working be so grateful that you are one of the lucky ones who will survive this and come out relatively unscathed financially.

Part of the criteria is : if you have school aged children at home … what age is school age children not able to stay home alone? However, with the online schooling required , who is going to assist these children? The CERB says if you are staying home for reasons related to COVID why should you not be entitled if you had to leave work for your children ?

this system was not designed to profit from, It is to help people affected by the virus and unable to work. The government is going to be so much in debt after this, the ones who chose to defraud them will be dealt with, and there will be alot of crying next year at income tax time!

Government automatically turned all EI claims to CERB claims. Sent out cheques, then sending out EI cheques. Definitely not the public’s fault. Just don’t spend the money and pay it back when the government straighten out their files. They are doing an awesome job at helping out the public. There are just a few things to iron out. No one should be fine for this as people’s intentions were not fraudulent in most cases! People are always so fast to judge!

Good. If someone has been fraudulent they should suffer the consequences

It also applies to people that didn’t qualify, but applied anyways… like people on OW or ODSP or WSIB or anybody else that was not employed.
